4) Up close and personal
Trying to include too much in the picture is a common fault with many holiday and family snaps. If you want to have really personal shots of your child you should try getting in really close. A tightly framed head shot makes you concentrate on the eyes of your subject and gives a real feeling of intimacy. It also cuts out a lot of the distracting background from your photo. The closer you get to a subject, the less depth of field you have, which will throw the background out of focus - again making the face the main area of attention.
Don’t worry if you cut off the top of the head or even a bit of the chin - just get up close and I think that you will be pleased at how striking the results will be.
